1985: Just the Facts

Just for Fun

Things are moving along here at Moonstruck!  Our cast is amazing, the team is thrilled, and the show is hilarious.  (What could be better?)  Soon, we’ll have some information on our cast for you to peruse, even maybe some behind the scenes footage of our early rehearsals!
So, our show takes place in 1985.  Let’s take you back to that time – what was the world like?

In 1985…

  • Ronald Reagan was in his second term as President of the United States.
  • San Francisco defeated Miami in the Super Bowl. Cost of a Superbowl ad in 1985: $525,000.
  • Coca-Cola attempts to change its 99-year-old formula in an effort to attract younger drinkers. “New” Coke is poorly received, and the company soon reintroduces the original, “Classic” beverage.
  • The Titanic wreckage was discovered on the ocean floor of the North Atlantic.
  • Microsoft released the first version of Windows.
  • “Back To The Future” was the biggest movie of the year.
  • People tuned in to watch The Cosby Show; Family Ties; Murder, She Wrote;  Cheers; Dallas; Dynasty; The Golden Girls; Miami Vice and Who’s the Boss?
  • WrestleMania debuted at Madison Square Garden.
  • Tetris was released.
  • Comic strip Calvin and Hobbes debuted in 35 newspapers.
  • In California, the charity single “We Are the World” was recorded by USA for Africa.

In 1985, people were photographed looking like this:

And the video of the year was “Take on Me” by A-Ha.

We’re super excited to get ourselves back to 1985!  This may be a whole new experience to some of our cast, some of whom weren’t even alive in 1985!  It should be a real trip!

To close out this entry, some news: we selected a winner for our TICKET GIVEAWAY!  Congrats to Eileen for the correct guesses!  We look forward to seeing you at the show!
